Ultra-fast Windows Performance With ImageAccel's on-chip Windows acceleration you can open, close, move, size and scroll windows with blazing speed. ImageAccel was specially designed to maximize overall Windows performance. Scale-to-Gray ImageAccel's built-in scale-to-gray engine enhances image quality lost in the scanning and scaling process. Resulting images are easy to read, with no performance loss. Hardware Assist for Document Imaging The ImageAccel Display Controller incorporates hardware assist for decompression, scaling and rotation of bi-tonal document images. This provides exceptional image display rates without the cost of traditional hardware-based decompression. VGA Support For PC/AT bus systems, non-Windows applications use ImageAccel's on-board VGA, which can display on either the high resolution display or on a separate VGA display connected to the ImageAccel controller. ImageAccel's on-board VGA provides 640 x 480 resolution, and 16 colors out of a palette of 262,144. For Micro Channel bus systems, ImageAccel provides VGA compatibility by attaching to the VGA controller on the system motherboard. These capabilities ensure that your ImageAccel Controller is compatible with industry standard business applications and other software applications, and that your existing applications will operate without modification. Grayscale Display Subsystems There are three different options for ImageAccel grayscale displays (161i, 164i, 202i display controllers) under the ImageAccel Control Panel dealing with color to gray conversion. The options are located under the Advanced button in the ImageAccel Control Panel, in the Color to Gray Conversion box. Optimize for Speed This option converts a color first to one of 16 VGA colors and then to one of the 16 ImageAccel gray levels in the display driver, before being sent to the display adapter card. This method is fast as it shuffles the color conversion directly without software intervention. The trade-off for this is fewer colors for photographic applications. Optimize for Photographs This method uses R-G-B values and applies a luminance algorithm to convert a color to a 16 grayscale value. This option loses less color mapping information than Optimize for Speed, but takes longer. * * * Section 2 - System Hardware and Software Compatibility Hardware Compatibility: ----------------------- IBM PC/AT, IBM PS/2 Model 30, Compaq, and 100% compatibles IBM PS/2 Models 50,55,60,70,80,90,95,and 100% compatibles For information about the particular computer hardware or operating system that you are using, consult the documentation provided with your computer. These Displays are supported by the Windows Display Driver. * * * Section 7 - Hardware Installation Installation Notes: Before installing the ImageAccel controller, disable the VGA on your computer's motherboard if it does not disable automatically when it detects a VGA card. Remove your add-in VGA card if you have one, or disable ImageAccel's on-board VGA by removing jumper V to use another VGA source. * NOTE: Refer to XGAREAD.ME for instructions for configuring ImageAccel with an IBM PS-2 Model 77 or any IBM PS-2 machine with XGA on a daughter card. * NOTE: For IBM PS-1 Valuepoint computers (Model 425SX/S, 56,) you should disable the motherboard VGA. To do this, remove jumper 17 on the IBM's motherboard. It is essential that ImageAccel not conflict with either the memory or I/O addresses of any other controller in your system. Your ImageAccel controller is pre-configured for memory addresses DE00-DFFF and I/O addresses 3B0/3B1. If you need to change these defaults, change the jumpers as described in the User's Guide. Do not use address range B600-B7FF unless all other selections create a conflict, as this range inhibits monochrome VGA operation (the DOS command MODE MONO). If you use an ImageAccel Controller with a monochrome MDA or HGA controller, you can not use I/O address 3B0 and memory address B600-B7FF. In addition, you need to add VGA MonoText=0 to the [386Enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file. Hardware Installation Procedure 1. Turn OFF and disconnect the computer from the power source. 2. Remove the cover from your computer. 3. Verify the jumper settings. The factory default settings have been chosen to work with most system configurations. If you need to change these defaults, please refer to the Jumper Configuration section at the end of Chapter 3, Hardware Installation, of the ImageAccel Installation Guide. For PC/AT systems the default configuration is: I/O address: 3B0 - 3B1 Memory space: DE000 - DFFFF Display type: DualPage 120 (DualPage 120i controller) DualPage 150 (DualPage 150i controller) Autosync (Color controllers only) Boot to: High Resolution display On-board VGA: Enabled For Micro Channel systems the default configuration is: Display type: DualPage 120 (DualPage 120i controller) DualPage 150 (DualPage 150i controller) Autosync (Color controllers only) 4. Install the Display Controller in a 16-bit expansion slot, or the Video Adapter Slot for Micro Channel systems, and replace the computer cover. 5. Using the video cable supplied with your system, connect the 15-pin connector to the High Resolution connector on the installed Display Controller. For PC/AT bus controllers this is the UPPER connector. * NOTE: For proper operation of PC/AT bus controllers, the high resolution display MUST be connected to the UPPER connector on the ImageAccel controller. 6. Windows 95 Notes: This driver only supports Windows 95 installation through the ImageAccel Setup program. It does not fully support the Windows 95 Display Settings program. Changing Settings with the Windows 95 Display Settings program may cause your system to reboot to VGA mode. For this reason, the Windows 95 Control Panel Display Settings Setup is not supported, and using it may cause unexpected results. Windows 95 program limitations: Some Windows 95 programs, like the Windows 95 10 minute tutorial, will not run if the logical DPI is greater than 96. For document imaging, ImageAccel is preset to 120 DPI. If you want to run Windows 95 applications that require 96 DPI, use the ImageAccel Control Panel to change this setting. ImageAccel Setup Instructions for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 ------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Start Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 in VGA mode (640 x 480 x 16 Colors) 2. Insert the Display Setup, Disk 1 in the appropriate diskette drive. 3. From the File menu of the Windows Program Manager (Win 3.1) or from the desktop (Win 95), choose Run. 4. Type A:SETUP or B:SETUP, depending on the diskette drive, and press the Enter key. 5. Select the type of installation you want from the ImageAccel Setup menu. Due to the new architecture of the final Windows 95 release, we have found some new incompatibilities with the Windows 95 Control Panel and the ImageAccel Control Panel. Where these problems cause conflicts, the appropriate buttons in the ImageAccel control panel are grayed out. Use the Windows 95 Control Panel to change those settings. For a complete description of each of the buttons in the Setup program, refer to the HELP provided in the ImageAccel Control Panel. Please note the following exceptions: o Although the DELETE button is not grayed out while running in high resolution, do NOT delete unless you have reverted to VGA. o (Windows 95) Use the Windows 95 Control Panel Display Settings to revert to VGA. 6. Select your display from the list shown and choose Continue. When prompted, put the Driver, Disk 2 in the appropriate drive. NOTE: Selecting an inappropriate display type may cause a garbled or distorted screen, or it may refresh the screen properly, but at a lower refresh rate. If this occurs, run Windows SETUP from DOS in your Windows directory, and select the standard VGA display driver. Begin again with step 1, above. 7. Select Restart Windows. The ImageAccel Control Panel automatically runs the first time you run Windows after installing ImageAccel software. 8. Select the desired options from the ImageAccel Control Panel and select OK. Some changes to the Control Panel default settings require you to restart Windows before the changes take effect. See the User's Guide section titled "Using the ImageAccel Control Panel" for information about each of the options. 9. To change the ImageAccel Control Panel options later, double click on the ImageAccel icon within the Windows Control Panel. NOTE: If you have any difficulty installing the Windows VGA display driver, run the Windows Setup again from DOS and choose the VGA display driver. If you have the same or similar problems installing Windows for VGA, contact Microsoft for VGA installation support. * * * Section 10 - Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 Shared Network Installation These are advanced instructions for network system administrators who are already familiar with Windows 3.1 and 95 shared network installations.
