IBM BookManager Index Utility for Windows Version 2.2 Product Number: 5639-I14 Product Installation Instruction & Release Notes Welcome to IBM BookManager Index Utility for Windows NT and Windows 95 ** This README file contains information you need for installation, as well as information that was not available for our printed publications. This README file is divided into the following categories: - Product prerequisites - Installation - Important Information - Getting Help - Late-Breaking News & Hints PRODUCT PREREQUISITES --------------------- Before installing this product check to see that the following hardware and software resources are available:  Any system unit capable of running Microsoft Windows NT, V4.0 (Service Pack 3 or higher) or or Windows 95. A 486SX processor at 33MHZ or higher is recommended.  Display monitor  Any pointing device  One CD-ROM device  4MB of RAM in addition to that required by the operating system  5MB of hard-disk drive storage in addition to that required by the operating system INSTALLING IBM Index Utility for Windows NT and Windows 95 -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the BookManager Index Utility CD in your CD-ROM drive. 2. In Program Manager, select Run from the File menu. 3. Type the location you're installing from plus the word setup. For example, to install an English version of the product from a CD-ROM drive labeled g, type the following: g:\IndexW22\setup.exe 4. Select OK, and follow the online installation instructions. NOTE1: If you do not start SETUP.EXE in the directory where it resides, or if you do not fully qualify the path for SETUP.EXE, then a different SETUP.EXE may be started. Note2: If you are installing to NT version 4 with the Windows 95 shell it may be neccessary to modify environment settings. If the product fails to start because it can not find help then do the following: 1. Open the "Control Panel" from "My Computer" 2. Open "System" to bring up the "System Properties" 3. Click on the "Environment" tab 4. In the "System Variables" section add or append "PATH" and "HELP": a. Variable: PATH Value: C:\Program Files\IBM\IBM BookManager Index Utility for Windows32\INDEX32; b. Variable: HELP Value: C:\Program Files\IBM\IBM BookManager Index Utility for Windows32\INDEX32; note: The Value should represent the path you installed BookManager Index Utility. This is where the help files and executables are located. 5. Click OK, IBM BookManager Index Utility for Windows32 should now start. IMPORTANT INFORMATION --------------------- Please refer to the section below for information on how to obtain the latest corrective service for this product. We recommend you obtain corrective service at installation time. RUNNING INDEX UTILITY --------------------- From a DOS-Command prompt, change directories to that which you installed the Index Utility. Type INDEX32 for the help panel. (ie C:\>Program Files\IBM\IBM BookManager\INDEX32). UNINSTALLING INDEX UTILITY FOR WINDOWS 95/NT ------------------------------------------- On systems running the Explorer shell, uninstallation is launched via the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.
