IBM INFOWINDOW CONTROL PROGRAM VERSION 1.3 Contents Announcement Letter Number 287-488 dated November 3, 1987 US - Last Revised on November 3, 1987 Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability IBM InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3 provides support for the attachment of the IBM Personal System/2 (TM) Models 50 and 60 and the Pioneer LD-V6200A optional videodisc player. One-Time Charge: $180 Planned Availability: January 1988 (TM) Trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. Customer Letter Section HIGHLIGHTS o Support for the attachment of IBM Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60 o Support for the attachment of Pioneer LD-V6200A optional videodisc player o Wake-up function enhancement o Still Frame Audio command now classified as a non-motion command DESCRIPTION With the Control Program's Application Program Interface (API), the user's application can access the multimedia function of the IBM InfoWindow System through a command-oriented language. Authoring systems using this interface can simplify the task of creating presentations by providing prompting screens to solicit specific course and application design input. Three language interfaces allow programs created in either IBM PC Compiled Basic (Version 2.0), IBM PC C (Version 1.0) or Lattice(1) C (Version 2.15 or 3.0) to communicate with the InfoWindow System through the API. Additionally, users may provide an interface for any programming language that executes on an IBM 5150 Personal Computer, IBM 516X Personal Computer XT (TM), IBM 5170 Personal Computer AT (R), or IBM Personal System/2 Model 30, 50 or 60. In addition to the extensive function offered in Version 1.0 (refer to Programming Announcement 286-293, dated June 16, 1986) and Version 1.2 (refer to Programming Announcement 287-134, dated April 2, 1987), Version 1.3 adds support for the IBM Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60, further expanding the InfoWindow System user's connectivity options. Version 1.3 also provides support for the attachment of the Pioneer LD-V6200A optional videodisc player. An enhancement to the Wake-up command is added in Version 1.3, as well as the reclassification of the Still Frame Audio command to a non-motion command. (TM) Trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. (R) Registered trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. (1) Trademark of Lattice, Inc. SCHEDULE Planned availability is January 1988. TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT MACHINE REQUIREMENTS: The IBM InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3 requires an IBM 4055 InfoWindow Display, associated cables, and an IBM 5150 Personal Computer, IBM 516X Personal Computer XT (excluding XT/370 model), IBM 5170 Personal Computer AT (excluding AT/370 model), or IBM Personal System/2 Model 30, 50 or 60. The IBM InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3 can operate on these personal computers with a minimum configuration of 256KB memory; however, authoring systems, courses, and other applications may have additional memory and storage requirements. If the personal computer to be used with the IBM 4055 InfoWindow Display is an IBM Personal System/2 Model 50 or 60, it must contain the following items: o One 3.5-inch diskette drive o IBM InfoWindow Attachment Kit (83X9239/#4239) o IBM GPIB Cable (63X4882/#5040). If an IBM 5150 Personal Computer, IBM 516X Personal Computer XT, IBM 5170 Personal Computer AT, or IBM Personal System/2 Model 30 is used, it must contain the following items: o One 5.25-inch diskette drive (required for 5150 PC, 516X PC XT, or 5170 Personal Computer AT) o One 3.5-inch diskette drive (required for Personal System/2 Model 30) o IBM InfoWindow Enhanced Graphics Adapter (56X2412/#5240), or IBM Enhanced Graphics Adapter (1501200/#1200), and IBM Graphics Memory Expansion Card (1501201/#1201) o IBM InfoWindow EGA Jumper Card (56X2429/#6583) o IBM GPIB Card (6451503/#1503) o IBM GPIB Cable (63X4882/#5040). NOTE: Use of the enhanced function in the IBM InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3 requires an IBM 4055 InfoWindow Display part number 8575154 or 8575150 with label affixed stating ROM module EC level A33944 installed, and an IBM InfoWindow System Diskette Release 1.3. Customers with Version 1.0 or 1.2 of the IBM InfoWindow System Diskette may obtain Version 1.3 by ordering the IBM InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3 Upgrade (described in the PACKAGING and PROGRAM UPGRADE sections of this announcement). Customers with an IBM 4055 InfoWindow Display part number 8575150 must obtain the upgrade ROM module by ordering the IBM InfoWindow Hardware Upgrade Kit (refer to Product Announcement 187-223, dated November 3, 1987, for additional information) in order to run Version 1.3 of the InfoWindow Control Program. If placing an order for an IBM 4055 InfoWindow Display to be used with InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3, delivery of the 4055 Display should be scheduled no earlier than January 29, 1988. This will ensure the InfoWindow System Diskette, which is shipped with the 4055 Display, is at a level compatible with InfoWindow Control Program Version 1.3. If the 4055 Display is shipped prior to that time, the customer must obtain the IBM InfoWindow Guide to Operations manual (which contains the System Diskette). OPTIONAL VIDEODISC PLAYERS: Laser videodisc players which may be attached to the IBM 4055 InfoWindow Display and accessed through the IBM InfoWindow Control Program are available from original equipment manufacturers (OEM). The following videodisc players or their functional and interface equivalent have attachment interfaces capable of providing the audio and video input to the system: o Pioneer LD-V6000 (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6000 with SWSD Processor SS-D1 (Sound over Still) (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6000A (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6000A with SWSD Processor SS-D1 (Sound over Still) (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6010A (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6010A with SWSD Processor SS-D1 (Sound over Still) (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6200 (IEEE-488 Parallel Interface) o Pioneer LD-V6200A (IEEE-488 Parallel Interface) o Sony LDP-1500 (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Sony LDP-2000 Model 1 (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Sony LDP-2000 Model 2 (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Sony LDP-2000 Model 3 (RS-232C Serial Interface or IEEE-488 Parallel Interface) o Sony LDP-2000 Model 4 (RS-232C Serial Interface) o Sony LDP-2000 Model 5 (RS-232C Serial Interface or IEEE-488 Parallel Interface).
