Scan Method

Reflective Choose this option for paper originals (non-transparencies) which do not consist of a "see through" type of material, such as photographs, flyers, newspapers and so on.
Transmissive Choose this option for transparent objects (through which light can pass, e.g. overhead projector slides) if a Transparency Adapter is installed and turned on.

Image Resolutions

The Resolution setting determines the amount of information the scanner will capture in a resulting scanned image and is measured in dots per inch (dpi). The higher the resolution, the finer the image detail and the bigger the image file size. The default setting is 300 dpi.

Descreen

No descreen Descreen is a preprocessing option which can be used to minimize the appearance of unsightly interference patterns (moiré patterns).
Art Print (175 lpi) Smoothes the fine dot pattern found in high quality art prints.
Magazine (133 lpi) Smoothes the fine dot pattern found in glossy magazines.
Newspaper (85 lpi) Smoothes the coarse grain pattern commonly found in newspapers.
Custom The user will specify a value for the lines per inch (lpi).

When you choose Custom, the scroll bar will be activated. The values are between 20 and 300 lpi. The default value is 120 lpi.

 Filter

No Filter This option maintains the values of pixels as in the original image. i.e. there are no softening or sharpening effects.
Sharpen or Sharpen More Increases the contrast at the interface between light and dark areas in an image.
Blur or Blur More Reduces the contrast between adjacent pixels to create a softer image.

Scaling

This command automatically enlarges or reduces the size of an image as it is being scanned according to your selected scale factor. The smaller the scale factor, the faster the processing and enhancement speed, and the smaller the file size. The default setting is 100%.

Note: There is a close relationship between setting the resolution and scaling. The multiplication of the resolution and scaling settings cannot exceed the maximum resolution of your scanner (Resolution x Scaling <= Maximum Scanner Resolution).

Auto Adjustment

The Auto Adjustment facility provides a simple control to adjust values within the selection frame.

If the Auto Adjustment check box is checked, the Auto Adjustment tool will automatically calculate the optimal values for the image inside the selection frame.

When this box is checked, the preview immediately repaints to show you the effect of the automatic preprocessing.
