For the majority of applications currently certified by Wabi 1.1, Microsoft Windows is not required to execute Microsoft Windows applications. For further information about Wabi 1.1, refer to Software Announcement 294-442, dated July 26, 1994. ISDN Software -- Under Nomadic Computing Environment (NCE), ISDN is available in a manner similar to that used for the standard analog modem. The same Internet protocols (IPs) are supported, but with a much higher bandwidth than before. Two data channels, each operating at 64Kb/sec are available simultaneously for automatic, on-demand dial-up access to remote networks over Internet protocols/point-to-point (IP/PPP) connections. User access is via standard networking utilities such as FTP and Telnet. For ISDN application software developers, the protocol stack presented by N40 implementation can be accessed at a number of levels. An application software interface library that conforms to the Q.931 specification, as defined by the North American ISDN Users Forum (NIUF), is presented. The library is for call management to the ISDN network. PRODUCT POSITIONING With its world-class, lightweight design and powerful feature set, IBM's unique notebook workstation is the ideal portable companion to the RISC System/6000 workstation for users who want to use AIX remotely while staying connected to their networks. Model N40 combines workstation performance and functionality in a portable, lightweight package. Designed for the mobile professional, the notebook workstation weighs just 6.9 pounds and operates from an internal battery or an optional battery pack that lets the user work up to four consecutive hours without interruption. With its integrated TrackPoint II(TM) pointing device conveniently located in the center of the keyboard, there is no need for an external mouse. The power of Model N40 is provided by 50MHz PowerPC(TM) 601 single-chip processor, 32KB unified instruction and data cache, 16- to 64MB memory capacity, and the ability to run AIX/6000(TM)-compatible applications. Model N40 takes advantage of the latest in mobile communications by providing connectivity via a high-speed modem, Ethernet, and ISDN devices. In addition, Model N40 includes PCMCIA capability for token ring, many other PCMCIA features, and future wireless adapters. Model N40 also offers a built-in speaker and microphone.
