IBM supported ASCII terminal or IBM supported display, display adapter and keyboard. POWERservers MUST have a console. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: AIX Version 3.2.3 Extended for RISC System/6000, ordered separately. MODEL CONVERSIONS Customers with the POWERstation/POWERserver 52H or 53H will be able to convert systems to the new POWERstation/POWERserver 57F processor (570 CPU performance capability). IBM fixed disk configurations supported by the POWERstation/POWERserver 52H and 53H will be supported by the POWERstation/POWERserver 57F. All Micro Channel cards, external and internal devices supported by the POWERstation/POWERserver 570 on announcement will be supported by the POWERstation/POWERserver 57F. The POWERstation/POWERserver 57F requires a minimum of 32MB of memory. Memory cards are available in multiples of 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128MB with a maximum of 1GB. Additional memory must be purchased to meet the 32MB minimum configuration and the card pair requirement. System performance of the POWERstation/POWERserver 57F about the new POWERstation/POWERserver 570 will depend on the installed fixed disks. Customers whose converted machine contains only IBM fixed disks supported by the new POWERstation/POWERserver 570 should not experience any performance degradation. Retention in the converted machines of IBM fixed disks not supported by the new POWERstation/POWERserver 570 may yield a degradation in system performance about the POWERstation/POWERserver 570, depending on the customer's applications (compute intensive versus I/O intensive). This offers a high degree of flexibility in increasing the performance level of the system, while helping customers with compute-intensive applications to take advantage of the performance of the new processor while protecting their investment in fixed disks. This upgrade requires AIX 3.2.3 Base or Extended to be installed and operational before the installation of the upgrade. The model conversion MESs contain some or all of the following items and are ordered through the HONE configurator: o Processor replacement o Memory cards o XIO and associated hardware o Integrated SCSI cable o Power supply o As required engineering changes o Installation instructions o New publications o New labels o New diagnostics o New covers. Customers with the POWERstation/POWERserver 570 will be able to convert systems to the POWERstation/POWERserver 58F processor (580 CPU performance capability). The POWERstation/POWERserver 58F requires a minimum of 64MB of memory. Memory increments are available in multiples of 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128MB with a maximum of 1GB. Memory cards must be installed in pairs. Additional memory must be purchased to meet the 64MB minimum configuration. The model conversion MESs contain some or all of the following items and are ordered through the HONE configurator: o Processor replacement o As required engineering changes o Installation instructions o New publications o New labels o New diagnostics. NOTE: Parts removed become the property of IBM. LIMITATIONS: There are eight memory card slots. While converting to the POWERstation/POWERserver 57F/58F, the system will contain the same number of memory cards and megabytes per card as in the original system. Maximum memory capacity of a conversion to a POWERstation/POWERserver 57F/58F will be dependent on the original memory configuration of the converted POWERstation/POWERserver 52H, 53H or 570. The customer may choose to replace/augment the converted memory by purchasing additional higher-density memory cards to take full advantage of the maximum capacity of 1GB. Customers will be responsible for obtaining the additional memory necessary to attain the minimum memory requirement (32MB/64MB) and to attain any of the larger memory configurations supported by the POWERstation/POWERserver 57F/58F, to the extent the memory requirement is larger than the customer's current memory. The remote power capabilities of the Model 570 are not supported on the Model 57F. The IBM 4869 5.25-inch External Diskette Drive is not supported on the Model 57F. The 57F upgrade requires AIX Version 3.2.3 Base or Extended to be installed and operational before the installation of the upgrade. Feature number 3155 for the IBM 3812 printer is required for attachment to the RISC System/6000 system. 2. Feature number 7652 for the IBM 3816 printer is required for attachment to the RISC System/6000 system. 3. When using the serial ports, the IBM 4019 requires feature number 9143 (system serial interface adapter) for attachment to the RISC System/6000 system. PRINTER INFORMATION: o The IBM RISC System/6000 system supports Code Page 850. The Code Page 850 cartridge must be installed on the IBM 5202 Printer to fully use the full characters sets of the system. For details on available cartridges, refer to the IBM 5202 sales manual. Other IBM printers have Code Page 850 resident. o For optimum system performance, high-speed serial printers should be attached to the native ports, 64-Port Async Controller, or 128-Port Async Controller. o The parallel printer port is provided for the convenience character printer. High-speed printers or applications requiring a large amount of data transfer per page (for example, high-density graphics) should use the serial interface for optimum system performance. o Impactwriter Models AP8 and AS8 emulate the IBM 4202-3 Printer for traditional line printing of simple text and numbers. Graphics, all points addressable and large characters cannot be printed.
