FEATURES The 4700 Financial I/O Hardware Guide (#8927) includes an operating guide, test cards, and diskettes needed to install, test, and operate the keyboard. The Hardware Guide also supports the other IBM 4700 financial input/output (I/O) devices (for example, 4707, 4712, 4717, 4718, and 4722) and may be ordered with any of them. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: The keyboard device driver and customization process for the 50-Key Function Keyboard requires Disk Operating System (DOS) 3.3 or later for operation. The customization process requires the use of an Enhanced Personal Computer Keyboard. A unique password capability for the 50-Key Function Keyboard is required if the password facility is to be used. This is provided on a diskette in the 4700 Financial I/O Hardware Guide. COMPATIBILITY: After the workstation has been customized for the 50-Key Function Keyboard, the workstation will no longer support general-purpose personal computer application programs. LIMITATIONS: The keyboard device driver and customization code does not operate under IBM Operating System/2 (TM) (OS/2 (TM)). The standard password capability does not operate with the 50-Key Function Keyboard. The 8555 supports a maximum of 16Mb of memory. If the 50-Key Function Keyboard is operating with Local Area Network (LAN) 1.3 and the Device Driver Diskette (from the 4700 I/O Hardware Guide) Version 2.0 or less, the following keys and key sequences are not supported: o PAUSE o PRINT SCREEN o CTL/ALT/DELETE o CTL/ALT/BREAK o CTL/NUMLOCK o CTL/ALT/* o CTL/ALT/PRINTSCREEN o CTL/BREAK. PLANNING INFORMATION CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The 8555-R31 and 8555-R61 are designated as customer setup (CSU). The CSU allowance is one day. System unit setup instructions are included with the machine. Keyboard setup and customizing instructions must be ordered separately. CABLE ORDERS: Cables are provided with the system unit and keyboard. INSTALLABILITY: By following the setup instructions, the user attaches the keyboard and peripherals and inserts the Reference Diskette. Power is then turned on and a Set Configuration program is run after the computer has successfully completed its initial self-tests. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: If a failure is found at initial installation, an instruction will appear on the screen. If the test is successfully completed, the system attempts to load an operating system from the A drive. If an operating system is not found, the system attempts to load one from the C fixed disk drive. If an operating system is not found, the user will be prompted to insert a diskette via an icon. A final default is provided through the use of a ROM-loaded BASIC interpreter, as explained in the Quick Reference manual. A diagnostic support diskette will be included in the 4700 Financial I/O Hardware Guide that contains self-test and diagnostic procedures for assistance in isolating a failing keyboard.
