IBM 7561 AND 7562 INDUSTRIAL COMPUTERS Contents Announcement Letter Number 189-043 dated March 21, 1989 US - Last Revised on March 21, 1989 Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability The 7561 and 7562 Industrial Computers are designed to function in an industrial plant floor environment where harsh physical conditions may exist. The system is highlighted by Micro Channel (TM) architecture with a 20MHz 80386 32-bit microprocessor with a capability of supporting up to 16Mb of real memory (8Mb on planar), 60Mb of disk storage, a 1.44Mb diskette drive and VGA graphics. The 7561 and the 7562 are identical in function and feature capacity; however, they differ in form. The 7561 is a bench-top system. The 7562 is designed to be installed in an industrial 19-inch rack. A list of supported features is included in the TECHNICAL INFORMATION section. (TM) Trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. (TM) Trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. (R) Registered trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. DESCRIPTION The new models of the IBM 7561 and 7562 Industrial Computers provide increased performance for industrial applications, including IBM network functions and workstation emulation capabilities. The new systems use the Personal System/2 (R) (PS/2) advanced Micro Channel architecture to integrate industrial requirements with many existing Personal System/2 features. The system is based on the 80386 microprocessor running at 20MHz and supports an optional 80387 Math Co-Processor. Performance is further enhanced through the use of a 32-bit wide data path to system memory. (R) Registered trademark of the International Business Machines Corporation. The high level of feature integration on the system board reduces the requirement for optional adapters. These include enhanced VGA graphics subsystem, EIA serial communications controller, audio subsystem, parallel printer port interface, keyboard port, mouse port, real time clock with battery-back-up, diskette drive controller, socket for an optional 20MHz 80387 Math Co-Processor, two 16-bit Micro Channel expansion slots and two standard 32-bit Micro Channel expansion slots. Models include 2Mb of standard memory and a 1.44Mb high-density 3.5-inch diskette drive, a 60Mb hard file and the IBM Enhanced Personal Computer Keyboard. New features are available as follows: FEATURE DESCRIPTION NUMBER 1.44Mb Diskette Drive 6376 2Mb Memory Module Kit 6594 4Mb Memory Module Kit 6575 1.44MB DISKETTE DRIVE (#6376): This feature is a double-sided 3.5-inch media diskette drive that supports 1.44Mb of formatted storage capacity. The drive uses the diskette controller on the system planar board. The drive can operate in low density (720Kb) modes. It can format, read and write either 1Mb or 2Mb diskettes. It should not be used to format a 1Mb diskette as 1.44Mb or a 2Mb diskette as 720Kb. 2MB AND 4MB MEMORY MODULE KITS (#6594 AND #6575): The 2MB and 4Mb Memory Module Kits--85ns provide 2Mb and 4Mb of 85 nanosecond memory. Kits can be installed on the system board of IBM 7561/7562 Industrial Computer bringing the total system board memory to 8Mb; 2Mb are factory installed leaving the option to install two additional memory modules: two 2Mb memory modules or one 2Mb and one 4Mb modules. Maximum system board memory is achieved by adding one 2Mb Memory Module Kit and one 4Mb Memory Module Kit to the 2Mb provided as standard. No switch setting is required. PUBLICATIONS The IBM 7561/7562 INSTALLATION AND OPERATION GUIDE (S16F-2142) and the IBM 7562 INSTALLATION AND OPERATIONS GUIDE (S33F-3843) are shipped in the product ship group.
