Also announced is a floating-point performance improvement for the RT PC new models operating with the Advanced Floating-Point Accelerator option, and a high-resolution graphics display adapter for attachment of selected 16" and 19" 5081 displays. Additional features include 4 MB and 8 MB fast memory expansion options, additional cables, and an increase in the range of devices supported by the existing optional Small Computer System Interface Adapter. DESCRIPTION The new series in the IBM RT PC product line consists of the IBM 6151 Model 115 and the IBM 6150 Models 125 and B25. All new models come equipped with the new CMOS processor and memory management chips, a built-in Motorola 20 MHz 68881 floating-point unit as standard, and 4 MB of fast memory, all on the Advanced Processor Card; an Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter, a single 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk, and a 1.2 MB diskette drive. The Model 115 brings a new level of RT PC processing power to the desk top. The Model 125 offers expandability in a floor-standing unit that can accommodate up to two additional 70 MB fixed disk drives. The Model B25 is similar to the Model 125, but has no keyboard, and is equipped with an adapter to enable it to operate in conjunction with an IBM 5080 Graphics System for CAD/CAM applications. The new series provides compatibility (at the level of the Virtual Machine Interface and above) with models of the existing RT PC series, with substantially improved performance, when running the same IBM programming and when configured with the same IBM features and peripherals. NOTE: To take advantage of the performance potential offered by the new models, recompiling of programs may be necessary. Since the base 4 MB of fast memory in the new series is resident on the processor card rather than on a separate memory card, as in the existing RT PC models, both RT PC memory card slots are available for memory expansion cards. Two expansion cards are offered: 4 MB Fast Memory Expansion and 8 MB Fast Memory Expansion, allowing system memories of 4, 8, 12, and 16 MB. (Addressing structure limits real memory to 16 MB; memory card combinations may not contain more than one 8-MB fast memory card plus one 4-MB fast memory card for a system total of 16 MB.) In addition to providing space for two additional optional 70 MB fixed disk drives, the 125 and B25 models have a larger power supply and more expansion slots than the Model 115, to enable the configuration of larger multi-user systems or more elaborate personal workstations. Models 115 and 125 can be configured as small multi-user commercial systems with up to 16 ASYNC ports, or alternatively as engineering/scientific workstations with a high-resolution display, or as technical professional workstations with extensive LAN file sharing capabilities. The IBM Megapel Display Adapter (#7658) and support for the attachment of IBM 5081 Displays Models 11, 12, 16 and 19 offer a new, native attachment for high resolution 1024 x 1024 16" color and 19" color and monochrome displays. The IBM Megapel Display Adapter also supports the 5082 Projection System, which enables use of the graphics capabilities of the RT PC System in environments where large-audience viewing is a requirement, such as meetings or presentations. TECHNOLOGY The RT PC Advanced System Processor has a 32-bit Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) architecture developed by IBM and implemented in a 1-micron CMOS technology. It has sixteen 32-bit general purpose registers and uses 32-bit addresses and data paths. The microprocessor is controlled by 118 simple 2- and 4-byte instructions. An IBM-developed advanced memory management chip provides virtual memory address translation functions and memory control. It provides a 40-bit virtual address structure capable of addressing one terabyte of virtual memory. The RISC architecture provides a system oriented toward pervasive use of high-level language programming, while providing a storage and I/O organization to enable the CPU to execute most register-to-register instructions in a single cycle. All new model RT PCs contain 4 MB of fast memory, capable of providing the processor with a 32-bit word of data plus ECC each 100 nsec cycle. This memory consists of 40 1-megabit IBM RAM chips. These chips are the same megabit technology used in the IBM 3090. The interface between the RT PC processor and the dedicated 32-bit floating-point accelerator slot has been improved to permit faster transmission of data to and from the advanced floating-point accelerator. The higher processor speed has been exploited by the Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter by changing the hard file interleave factor from 4:1 to 1:1. This new adapter also employs the RT PC's burst DMA I/O capability and incorporates a more efficient alternate-sector scheme than the previous ESDI adapter. PERFORMANCE The IBM RT PC Advanced System Processor has a cycle time of 100 nanoseconds and executes up to 4.5 million instructions per second (MIPS), depending upon the actual instruction mix. For central processing unit intensive tasks, the new models with the RT PC Advanced System Processor have approximately two times the execution speed of the existing models. Actual system throughput is dependent on numerous other factors. The performance improvement of the new series models has been achieved through a number of improvements. Shorter instruction and memory cycle time are coupled with architectural changes, such as increasing the number of instructions that take only one cycle to execute, and improving the interfaces between processor sub-units. The Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter increases the maximum fixed-disk data transmission rate from .26 to 1 million bytes per second. This performance improvement, which will have a favorable impact on the performance of applications that use disk files or have high paging rates, results from a change from a 4:1 to a 1:1 interleave factor and the use of the RT PC I/O channel's burst DMA capability, a feature not available on other IBM Personal Computers. The RT Personal Computer has a four-byte-wide memory interface with eight bits of error correcting code (ECC), providing a bandwidth of about 40 MB per second. The I/O bus bandwidth is 2 to 4 MB per second. The 4 MB and 8 MB fast memory have an effective cycle time of 100 nanoseconds using two-way interleaving to overlap memory access. The performance of the Megapel Display Adapter can be characterized by the following statements of approximate performance: the Megapel Display Adapter has a pixel write time in any direction of 113 nanoseconds per pixel. The Adapter also has a 4 million pixel per second BIT/BLT rate doing screen-to-screen BIT/BLT. The Adapter will perform a fill rectangle operation at up to 30 million pixels per second. System performance is subject to a number of other variables, and, accordingly, the foregoing parameters are not necessarily representative of system performance. FLOATING-POINT PERFORMANCE: The built-in standard floating-point unit is located on the same card as the Advanced System Processor and has a performance of up to .81 million Whetstone Instructions Per Second (.81 MWIPS) in single-precision, and a double-precision performance of up to .7 MWIPS or 80 thousand Linpack Floating-Point Operations Per Second (80 KFLOPS). The optional Advanced Floating-Point Accelerator (#6815), which may be plugged into the Floating-Point Accelerator slot on the system board, increases the capability of the IBM RT PC new series models to process floating-point operations. With this Advanced Floating-Point Accelerator option, the RT PC Models 115, 125, and B25 each have a FORTRAN floating-point performance in double-precision of approximately 1.4 MWIPS (1.6 MWIPS single precision) or 300 KFLOPS when supported by the AIX (TM) Operating System Version 2.1. (For performance conditions, qualifications, and limitations, see the Performance section of Product Announcement 187-020, dated February 17, 1987.) NOTE: The performance shown is for Models 115, 125, and B25 whether manufactured new by IBM or upgraded by customers from earlier IBM RT PC models using the IBM upgrade kit (P/N 61X6833). The IBM upgrade kit must be correctly and completely applied and the resulting system brought to full equivalency with the newly-manufactured model, including replacement or reformatting of all existing fixed disk drives to IBM 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drives. Upgraded systems to which the upgrade kit has been only partially applied will have lower levels of performance. AIX is a trademark of International Business Machines Corporation. CONFIGURATION Except in the areas noted below, the new series models parallel the earlier RT PC Models 015, 025, and A25. Model 115 is similar to Model 015 in physical appearance and featurability, while Models 125 and B25 are similar to the earlier Models 025 and A25. The 6150 Model B25 serves as a private host executing the graphics application for a 5080 Graphics System workstation via a serial link adapter standard with this model. An appropriately configured Model 125 can also be equipped for use in this configuration by addition of a 5080 Attachment Adapter (#7860). (Consult specific application requirements for recommended configuration of fixed disk and memory.) All new models of the RT Personal Computer are equipped with a high capacity (1.2 MB) diskette drive and an integrated date/time clock with battery backup. Models 115 and 125 are also provided with a keyboard and attached keyboard cable. Standard memory on all new models is 4 MB of fast memory on the Advanced Processor Card. Configuration flexibility in the new model RT PCs is achieved by slots for optional features, as follows: o Two dedicated 32-bit slots for RT PC fast memory expansion cards o One dedicated 32-bit slot for the optional Advanced Floating-Point Accelerator o Eight I/O feature slots (six in Model 115) Model 115 has six I/O feature slots and Models 125 and B25 contain eight I/O feature slots to support devices, features, or IBM Personal Computer AT (R) memory. Six of the slots (five in Model 115) may be occupied by either RT Personal Computer or supported Personal Computer AT 16-bit option cards or by supported Personal Computer 8-bit option cards. Two slots (one in Model 115) support 8-bit options only. As shipped by IBM, all models use one of the 16-bit slots for the standard combination disk/diskette Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter. The IBM feature cards, which plug into the I/O feature slots and are supported on the earlier series, are also supported on the new series. All new models include the new, improved-performance Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter and a single 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive as standard, in addition to the standard 1.2 MB High-Capacity Diskette drive. The Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter requires one of the 16-bit feature slots. The Adapter will support up to three-70 MB fixed disk drives and up to two diskette drives (one 70 MB fixed disk and one diskette drive in the Model 115). The second diskette drive in the Model 125 or B25 may be either an IBM PC AT 1.2 MB high capacity drive or an IBM PC AT dual-sided diskette drive (320/360 KB). Additional direct-access storage is available for Models 125 and B25 by adding either one or two 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk drives. These combinations result in a maximum internal fixed-disk storage of 210 MB. External disk storage up to 5.6 GB may be added to any RT PC model via the optional Small Computer System Interface Adapter and the IBM 9332 or other compatible DASD. Fixed-disk backup for save/restore of recorded information is available through the optional IBM 6157 Streaming Tape Drive. (Refer to Product Announcement 186-008, dated January 21, 1986.) The 6157 tape cartridge also provides a medium for data interchange between systems. Models 125 and B25 each have two built-in asynchronous (RS-232) serial ports with direct memory access. The serial ports are recommended for attachment of high data rate devices such as the IBM 3812 Pageprinter. Each model can be further expanded through customer setup options. Memory can be expanded to 16 MB via optional 4 MB or 8 MB fast memory cards in the two dedicated memory card slots. Most of the feature cards supported on the earlier series are also supported on the new series. All new models include a standard security keylock, which, when locked, can help to prevent removal of the RT Personal Computer cover, initialization of the system, and entry of commands or data from the keyboard when locked. A programmable speaker, used to produce tones, is also provided in the keyboard. The keyboard is standard on Models 115 and 125, and is attached to the RT Personal Computer via an attached 2.5-meter (8.2-foot) cable, permitting a variety of workspace configurations. In the case of the Model B25 for use with the 5080 Graphics System, the keyboard is provided with the 5080 rather than as part of the 6150 Model B25. RELATIONSHIP TO INITIAL MODEL SERIES The new series of models (Models 115, 125, and B25) are a part of the RT PC system family, and are compatible (at the level of the Virtual Machine Interface and above) with the initial model series (Models 010, 015, 020, 025, and A25) when running the same IBM programming and when configured with the same IBM features and peripherals. Accordingly, the customer's programming and training investment is preserved, and models of both series may also be intermixed in the user environment, whether standalone or local or long distance network. In addition, supported IBM option cards that attach via the RT PC I/O Bus (option card slots) will operate in models of either series. While it is also possible to utilize IBM fixed disk drives and adapters from Models 010, 015, 020, 025, and A25 in the new models, best system performance will be obtained if only the IBM Extended ESDI Adapter and Drives are used. The new series of models employs faster circuitry of a different Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) family (CMOS) and has implemented other technologies and design changes aimed at increasing system speed and throughput in data handling and in both fixed- and floating-point calculations. The new system elements (advanced processor card, fast memory cards, and Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter) have been selected to work together as an integrated system having improved performance. For this reason, memory cards from the initial series models are not supported on the new series models, and vice versa. The optional Advanced Floating-Point Accelerator (#6815) was designed from its inception to work with either model series, although system floating-point performance is much higher when the Advanced Accelerator is used in new model series machines. MODEL UPGRADES Earlier models may be upgraded to the new series models through the purchase and use of an IBM upgrade kit (plus addition of an Extended ESDI or reformatted ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive in the case of Models 010 and 020). The kit permits an IBM 6151 Model 015 to be upgraded to an IBM 6151 Model 115, and the IBM 6150 Models 025 and A25 to be upgraded to IBM 6150 Models 125 and B25, respectively. Upgrade of the IBM 6151 Model 010 to Model 115 or the IBM 6150 Model 020 to Model 125 is also possible, but these upgrades require the customer to first acquire either an RT PC 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive (#3988), or an RT PC ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive (#6941), which can be reformatted to be compatible with the RT PC Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter standard in all new series models. Because the new series models are only supported by AIX Operating System Version 2.1, that version of the operating system is a corequisite of the upgrade kit. In model upgrades where the earlier model already houses one or more ESDI 70 MB Fixed-Disk Drives, the drive(s) must be reformatted in order to be compatible with the new Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter in the new series models. A utility program will be provided as a part of the upgrade kit to enable users to reformat their disks. Customers are responsible for taking appropriate measures to insure the safety and security of customer data and programs throughout the process of removing all data/programs from the disk to be reformatted, reformatting the disk, and reloading the data/programs to disk. (See New Model Series Upgrade Kit, Accessory P/N 61X6833 below.) Customers who wish to upgrade their RT PC systems in stages can continue to use their existing DASD and adapters, but should recognize that best overall performance levels will not be realized without disk reformatting or replacement, as required to reach full equivalency with the standard models of the new series. Stated prerequisites and limitations continue to apply to RT PC systems composed of mixed existing and Extended ESDI DASD, as well as to fully upgraded systems. ADDITIONAL FEATURES AND ACCESSORIES The IBM Megapel Display Adapter (#7658) is a high-resolution display adapter that provides a direct connection for the IBM 5081 Model 11, 12, 16 or 19 displays or the 5082 Projection System to an RT Personal Computer system unit (any model). NOTE: Feature Code #2001 is required on a 5081 display for attachment to the Megapel Adapter. The adapter allows the attached monitor to function both as the application display and the RT PC operator console. NOTE: The monitor attached to the Megapel Adapter is not supported as an operator console by the PC AT Coprocessor Services Licensed Program or by application programs running in Coprocessor mode. However, a supported display -- either the IBM 5151 or the IBM 5154 -- may be added to the RT PC to provide a console for coprocessor support. The Megapel Display Adapter supports 1024 x 1024 resolution on its attached display, 256 colors from a palette of 4096 colors for color monitors, or 16 shades of gray on monochrome monitors. The adapter has a high speed LSI pel processor with Pick and Scissor capability as standard, which provides high speed vector draw, BIT/BLT, and area fill. The adapter is packaged on two linked cards that require two adjacent 16-bit feature slots in the RT PC. The adapter also provides a parallel printer interface identical to the printer interface on the PC Monochrome Display Adapter, eliminating the need for a separate parallel printer adapter and the use of a slot for that purpose. (Note: If feature #4900, IBM Monochrome Display and Printer Adapter, is also plugged in, only one parallel printer adapter per system may be active.) The adapter includes a six-foot signal cable to attach the monitor to the adapter card. The Megapel Display Adapter is supported by two application interfaces, graPHIGS (TM) (IBM's Programmer's Hierarchical Interactive Graphics Standard) and GSL (Graphics Support Library). A software prerequisite for adapter support is either AIX Version 2.1 or VRM Version 2.1. There is a limit of one Megapel Display Adapter per RT PC system. The RT PC must have a minimum of two MB of memory. The adapter can coexist on an RT PC with a native RT PC display (6153, 6154 or 6155) and adapter, with a supported PC display (5151 or 5154) and adapter, and with the 5080 Attachment Adapter (#7860). The IBM RT Personal Computer 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive (#3988) provides a 70 MB fixed disk drive for use as an optional second or third fixed disk drive in an RT PC Model 125 or B25. The disk is formatted to be compatible with the RT PC Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter and is identical to the 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive that comes as standard with every RT PC Model 125 or B25. Average access is 37 ms, transfer rate is 10 MBits per second. ESDI interface, 512 bytes per sector, 35 sectors per track, 3600 RPM, 5-1/4 inch internal disk drive. This disk drive and the standard RT PC Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter in the new series models (115, 125, B25) together provide a large performance increase over the RT PC 70 MB ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive (#6941) and its adapter through 1:1 sector interleaving and Direct Memory Access (DMA) of disk data. AIX Version 2.1 is a prerequisite for support of the 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive (not available for any model of the IBM 6151, or for the IBM 6150 Models 020, 025 or A25). The IBM RT Personal Computer 4 MB Fast Memory Expansion (#7004) increases the system memory of a Model 115, 125 or B25 by 4 MB. Up to two 4 MB Fast Memory cards can be added to an RT PC to supplement the standard 4 MB of fast memory on the Advanced Processor Card. The Fast Memory Expansion option cards plug into dedicated memory card slots in the RT PC system. 4 MB and 8 MB Fast Memory cards can be used in combination in the two slots so long as the system total does not exceed 16 MB, including the 4 MB on the processor card. Memory is divided into two arrays of 2MB each with interleaving to overlap memory access and achieve the equivalent of 100-nanosecond cycle time. Four data bytes and one error correcting code (ECC) byte are transferred at a time over a 32-bit data path plus 8-bit ECC. The IBM RT Personal Computer 8 MB Fast Memory Expansion (#7008) increases the system memory of a Model 115, 125, or B25 by 8 MB. Only one 8 MB Fast Memory Expansion option may be added to the RT PC, either alone or in combination with the 4 MB Fast Memory Expansion option. Fast Memory Expansion cards plug into two dedicated memory slots in the RT PC system. 4 MB and 8 MB Fast Memory cards may be used in combination in these two slots so long as the system total does not exceed 16 MB, including the 4 MB on the processor card. Memory is divided into two arrays of 4 MB each with interleaving to overlap memory access and achieve the equivalent of 100-nanosecond cycle time. Four data bytes and one error correcting code (ECC) byte are transferred at a time over a 32-bit data path plus 8-bit ECC. The IBM RT PC Small Computer System Interface Adapter for IBM 9332 DASD Attachment (#7000) was announced September 18, 1986. (Refer to Product Announcement 186-174.) This adapter, associated cables, and associated software were designed in consideration of the ANSI Standard (X3.131.1986) and support the Mandatory Command Set for disk and tape, as well as selected Optional and Extended Commands for disk and tape (see Hardware Technical Reference for interface description). The transmission option supported is the Differential Driver-Receiver option. The attachment cable provides the Alternative-2 connector. In recognition of the increasing popularity of the Small Computer System Interface as a means of device attachment to high end personal computer systems, the scope of this feature (#7000) has been broadened to include other disks and tapes having an appropriate interface. OEM disk and tape suppliers now have an additional hardware interface, with IBM-supported software device drivers, for attachment of appropriately designed disk and tape products. Accordingly, the name of the adapter feature #7000 has been shortened to IBM RT PC Small Computer System Interface Adapter in order to reflect the broadened scope of the adapter connectivity. The New Model Series Upgrade Kit (P/N 61X6833) contains the hardware, software, and instructions necessary to upgrade a Model 015 to a Model 115, a Model 025 to a Model 125, or a Model A25 to a Model B25. The kit consists of a New Model Series Advanced Processor Card with new 100 nanosecond cycle CMOS processor, built-in floating-point unit, and 4 MB of on-card fast memory; an RT PC Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter, an RT PC Extended ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter Cable, a Utility Program Diskette with ESDI-to-Extended ESDI Reformatting Utility Program, and Customer Setup Instructions for the upgrade kit. Hardware publications updates for the new series models and diagnostic diskettes accompany the upgrade kit in a separate carton. A corequisite for the upgrade kit is RT PC AIX Operating System Version 2.1 . The upgrade kit is only available for sale for the purpose of upgrading earlier RT PC Models 010, 015, 020, 025, and A25. There is a limit of one upgrade kit per RT PC system. Refer to the special terms and conditions for the upgrade kit later in this announcement. The IBM RT Personal Computer ASCII Terminal Cable -- RS-232C (10/25M-Pin) (#3913) is a 3-meter interface cable for attaching the IBM 316X family of ASCII terminals to any of the ports on the Four-Port Asynchronous RS-232C Adapter or to the standard RS-232C ports in the base unit of the IBM 6150 models. This cable has a 25-pin male D connector for the terminal and a 10-pin connector for the adapter. The new fast memory expansion features are not compatible with the earlier RT PC models. The earlier memory expansion cards are not supported on the new models. The Megapel Display Adapter supports the IBM 5081 Display Models 11, 12, 16, and 19, and attaches to any model of the RT PC. It can coexist with the RT PC native displays, supported PC displays, and with the 5080 Attachment Adapter feature #7860. Refer to Product Announcement 186-008, dated January 21, 1986, for a listing of personal computer hardware options and IBM peripheral devices supported on the RT Personal Computer. The IBM RT PC Models 115, 125, and B25, RT PC 4 MB Fast Memory Expansion, RT PC 8 MB Fast Memory Expansion, 70 MB Extended ESDI Fixed-Disk Drive, and the Megapel Display Adapter may coexist with the IBM peripheral devices and options listed. CONNECTION OF 6150 MODEL B25 TO THE MODEL 5080 GRAPHICS SYSTEM: The 6150 Model B25 System Unit can be connected to the 5080 Graphics System through the use of appropriate features/prerequisites in the 5080 and/or 5088. Refer to Product Announcement 186-009, dated January 21, 1986. Connection of the 5080 system to the 6150 Model B25 allows the 5080 to operate in a standalone environment with the 6150 as the Graphics Application Processor. An appropriately configured 6150 Model 020 System Unit/Keyboard or 6150 Model 025 or 125 System Unit/Keyboard can also be upgraded with the RT Personal Computer 5080 Attachment Adapter, feature #7860, to connect to the IBM 5080 System. (Consult specific application requirements for recommended configuration of fixed disk and memory.) The 5080 Attachment Adapter also allows the 5080 to be switched between standalone and System/370 mainframe interactive modes via the keyboard. Mainframe interactive mode requires a 5088 Channel Control Unit as a part of the 5080 configuration. (Note: The CAD/CAM application must reset the 5080 state when switching between the host and the IBM RT Personal Computer. The 5083 Tablet is supported on the 5080 and on the RT Personal Computer.) The attachment is made via a 4.5-meter (15-foot) industry standard coaxial cable supplied with the adapters, and requires a 16-bit feature slot. Customer-supplied coaxial cable may also be used. PLANNING INFORMATION CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The IBM RT PC Models 115, 125, and B25 and the additional features are designated as customer setup. Customer setup, service, and programming publications will be available at planned availability of the new model or appropriate feature. The CSU allowance is one day. The customer is responsible for adequate site and system planning and preparation. See IBM RT Personal Computer Planning (GC23-0782) (P/N 92X1312). The customer is responsible for unpacking and setting up system components per the setup instructions provided. Setup service is available from National Service Division at the hourly service rate and terms. In addition, the National Service Division offers a Contract Support Service (CSS) available for a minimum of 10 machines, which provides setup support for a fixed fee. CABLE ORDERS: The cables for attaching the keyboard and mouse to the system unit are supplied with the devices, and the signal and power cables for the RT PC displays are supplied with the display. The Megapel Display Adapter includes the signal cable for the 5081 Display. See Special Features section of RT PC Sales Pages for cable kits to attach Dials, Lighted Program Function Keyboard, and IBM 5083 Tablet. User-supplied coaxial cable is required to connect RT Personal Computers to a 5088 Controller using the S/370 Host Interface Adapter in the RT PC. INSTALLABILITY: The keyboard and mouse are plugged directly into the system unit. The 5083 Tablet is connected via a Tablet Cable Kit (#7586) to the same port on the system unit into which the mouse is plugged; the tablet and mouse are mutually exclusive options. The Lighted Program Function Keyboard (#4710) and Dials (#8710) are connected via an RT PC 5080 Peripheral Cable Kit (#7564). Supported RT PC displays are connected via the appropriate IBM Display Adapter, which is plugged into a system feature slot, using the signal cable attached to the display. The signal cable for the 5081 Display plugs into the back of the 5081 Display and into the Megapel Display Adapter, which itself plugs into a feature slot on the RT PC. Once turned on, the system unit automatically runs a power-on self-test to verify system unit readiness. The system unit keylock must be unlocked to complete this self-test. If a failure is found, an error code will appear on a two-digit indicator. Detailed installation instructions are contained in the IBM RT Personal Computer User Setup Guide (SV21-8020). The customer is responsible for following the problem determination procedures in this guide and in the IBM RT Personal Computer Problem Determination Guide (SV21-8022). PREREQUISITES: The RT Personal Computer requires a supported display with appropriate adapter for console output. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: The IBM RT Personal Computer Problem Determination Guide (SV21-8022) contains self-test and diagnostic procedures to assist the customer in isolating a defective machine element. PACKAGING: The RT PC Models 115, 125, and B25 system units, keyboards, line cords, and external options are packed in separate cartons (no keyboard with Model B25). Diagnostic diskettes and publication updates covering the various features will be shipped with the feature in a separate package. The signal cable for the 5081 Display is packaged with the Megapel Display Adapter. SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL The RT Personal Computer can be used and managed to limit the risk of unintended modification, destruction, or disclosure of sensitive data. User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, for administrative procedures, and for appropriate controls in application systems. If sensitive data is sent over external communication facilities, user management may wish to pursue the application of cryptography. IBM MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT: Maintenance service is available for the IBM RT PC and installed features/options under the IBM Maintenance Agreement. The base period of maintenance service availability is 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Optional periods of maintenance service are available for an additional charge. The type of maintenance service is IBM On-site Repair. On-site service is recommended for IBM RT PC-attached products. The customer must ensure that the system unit is unlocked when presented for service, and that the minimum recommended configuration of system unit, keyboard, and supported display are installed and available. HOURLY SERVICE: Hourly service is available at the IBM hourly rates and minimum charges. PRODUCT AVAILABILITY STATUS: New product available for the IBM 6151 and 6150. CUSTOMER SETUP: The IBM RT PC and peripherals are customer setup (CSU). Options purchased separately are customer setup.
