Customer Letter Section HIGHLIGHTS o New 6151 Model 015 with standard 2Mb of memory and a 70Mb internal fixed-disk drive o 4Mb Memory Expansion option with error correction code o Small Computer System Interface Adapter for attachment of up to seven external IBM 9332 Direct Access Storage Devices o High-speed System/370 attachment link via 5088 Graphics Channel Controller o Advanced 3278/79 Emulation Adapter DESCRIPTION 6151 MODEL 015 The 6151 Model 015 includes all the standard features of the Model 010, but has an increased standard memory of 2Mb, a standard ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter, and a standard internal 5-1/4 inch ESDI fixed-disk drive with a 70Mb capacity. The memory, fixed-disk drive, and ESDI Magnetic Media Adapter are the same as those standard on an 6150 Model 025. All other features and options available for the 6151 Model 010 are also available for the Model 015. All limitations for the Model 010 also apply to the Model 015. The following new features are available for all models of the IBM RT Personal Computer: NEW SPECIAL FEATURES 4MB MEMORY EXPANSION (#3156): One additional option increases the 6151 Model 010 or IBM 6150 Model 020 memory from 1Mb to 5Mb and the 6151 Model 015 or 6150 Models 025 or A25 from 2Mb to 6Mb. With one additional 4Mb Memory Expansion Option, and with replacement of the standard memory by another 4Mb Memory Expansion Option, it is possible to upgrade any model to a maximum of 8MB of system memory. Each 4Mb memory expansion is divided into two "arrays" of 2Mb each, which use interleaving to overlap memory access times and achieve the equivalent of a 170-nanosecond memory cycle time. Four data bytes and one ECC byte are transferred at the same time over a 32-bit data plus 8-bit ECC path. ADVANCED 3278/79 EMULATION ADAPTER (#5050): This option replaces the IBM Personal Computer 3278/79 Emulation Adapter (#2507). See Product Announcement 186-043, dated March 18, 1986 for details. The adapter provides a coaxial connection between an RT Personal Computer and a 3174/3274 Display Control Unit, or between a Personal Computer and the integrated display/printer adapter of either the 4331 or 4361 Processor. This adapter provides the "handshaking" between the two units. A maximum of one adapter per RT Personal Computer is supported. Customer-supplied cabling is required. Host programming is required for host interactive applications. Consult the current RT Personal Computer software offerings for 3270 software emulation available. SMALL COMPUTER SYSTEM INTERFACE ADAPTER FOR IBM 9332 DASD ATTACHMENT (#7000): A feature card which plugs into a 16-bit feature slot of any 6150 or 6151, permitting attachment of a string of up to seven IBM 9332 Direct Access Storage Devices, Models 250 and/or 450 (stand-alone) or 240 and/or 440 (rack-mounted). The IBM 9309 Rack Enclosure provides mounting space and power distribution for the 9332 Models 240 and 440. All 9332 models employ the Small Computer System Interface and all are external to the IBM RT PC. Their formatted capacity is 200Mb for Models 240 and 250, and 400Mb for Models 440 and 450. On a string, only Models 240 and 440, or Models 250 and 450 may be intermixed. For details, see Product Announcement 186-175, dated September 18, 1986. The Small Computer System Interface signal transmission option supported by the adapter employs the differential driver/receiver interface. IBM 9332 DASD may be attached in a string on the signal cable (daisy-chained). Each 9332 is provided with a signal cable. An eight-meter cable must be specified for attaching the first 9332 to the adapter, and a one-meter cable to connect 9332 to 9332. Additional cables may be ordered as features #3468 and #3470 for the 6150 or 6151 (see below). The data transfer between the RT Personal Computer and the adapter uses DMA mode. The adapter supports burst data rates up to 3.5Mb/second, but effective rates are lower. A maximum of two Small Computer System Interface DASD Adapters may be installed in the RT PC attaching a total of 14 IBM 9332s, for an attached storage total of up to 5.6Gb. The I/O performance using the Small Computer System Interface Adapter and 9332 DASD is dependent upon the system configuration and the number and type of tasks being performed. SMALL COMPUTER SYSTEM INTERFACE ADAPTER CABLE (#3468): This 8-meter cable connects the RT PC Small Computer System Interface Adapter (#7000) to the first 9332 in the string. It has a 62-pin "D" connector at the host end and a 50-pin Small Computer System Interface Alternative 2 connector at the device end. Included with the cable is a terminator to attach to the last device at the end of the string. SMALL COMPUTER SYSTEM INTERFACE DEVICE-TO-DEVICE CABLE (#3470): This cable is one meter long and is used to connect one 9332 to the next 9332 in the string. The cable has a 50-pin Small Computer System Interface Alternative 2 Connector at either end. SYSTEM/370 HOST INTERFACE ADAPTER (#7893): This adapter provides a high-speed link from an RT PC to a System/370 host via an IBM 5088 Graphics Channel Controller. Nominal link speed is 2Mb/second. The adapter facilitates high speed transfer of large blocks of data between an RT PC and a System/370 host. It permits transferring large CAD/CAM models or text/image data for publishing applications from host to RT PC for local processing, followed by return to centralized host data base. The RT PC may be attached on a single connection over user-supplied coaxial cable, using up to 16 link addresses. The adapter contains 64Kb of programmed random access memory to control the link. The adapter requires a 16-bit feature slot on an appropriately configured RT PC. It includes the attachment card, required microcode, and supporting publications. There is a limit of one #7893 per RT PC. Customer-supplied coax cabling is required. Host programming is required for host interactive applications. Note: The Mode Shared Attachment Feature (#9301) must be installed on the 5088 if the 5088 serial number is below 2000. Workstation and host programming support is provided by the RT Personal Computer Workstation Host Interface Program, running under the RT PC Advanced Interactive Executive (AIX(TM)) Operating System Version 2.1 (5601-061). PUBLICATIONS Each 6151 Model 015 system will be shipped with four manuals: o IBM RT Personal Computer User Set-Up Guide (SV21-8020) o IBM RT Personal Computer Guide to Operations (SV21-8021) o IBM RT Personal Computer Problem Determination Guide (SV21-8022) o IBM RT Personal Computer 6151 System Unit Hardware Maintenance and Service (SV21-8026) The IBM RT Personal Computer Site Planning and Preparation Guide (GA23-1058) will be given to the RT Personal Computer customer at the time of purchase.
