The new IBM PS/2 Server 95 is offered in a single model. o Powerful processor complex, with upgrade capability: - Pentium 60MHz microprocessor with 16KB internal cache. A 256KB write-back L2 cache, support for 128MB ECC memory, 40MB/sec streaming data, and SurePath BIOS, upgradeable via 'flash' EPROM. o High-performance, SCSI-2 Controller -- the PS/2 Server 95 560 features the new IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter/A busmaster controller, linked to a high-speed SCSI hard disk of 1GB. o Enhanced security -- the PS/2 Server 95 560 system with LogicLock and new tamper-evident, locking covers, privileged access password, selectable drive startup and support for optional features (such as, the Enhanced 2.88MB 3.5-inch Diskette Drive with electronic eject) provide system security exceeding C2 enabling requirements. USER PRODUCTIVITY The exciting new Pentium 60MHz microprocessor in the PS/2 Server 95 560 provides the CPU performance required for today's and future operating system and application environments. This processor, combined with the 32-bit Micro Channel architecture, IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter/A and high-speed SCSI-2 Fast hard disks, efficiently support large numbers of client read/write file transactions over the LAN and maintain outstanding responsiveness. The PS/2 Server 95 560 (9595-0PT) is designed for improved reliability, increasing customer productivity and satisfaction through reduced down time. IBM confidence in the reliability of this server is reflected by a three-year, 24-hour, on-site warranty -- with an average response time of four hours. o The Pentium 60MHz processor complex features the new, extremely powerful, Intel (2) Pentium microprocessor running at 60MHz. This microprocessor features a 64-bit data bus and 32-bit address bus capability and contains an integrated math co-processor, and a 16KB internal cache (8KB instruction and 8KB data). A 256KB write back L2 cache is also integrated on the processor complex. The Pentium microprocessor implements a number of techniques that improve performance over the previous Intel CPUs. It includes extensions to the registers, instruction set and control functions beyond that of the 80486. Performance improvements over 486-based systems range from 1.5 to 2 times better performance with a current application, or up to four times faster with a recompiled application optimized for Pentium technology. This new technology provides customers with a powerful engine designed for blazingly fast computation of data and enhanced system throughput. o Improved Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features, such as error correction code (ECC) memory, error logging, and increased power-on hour design points all translate into greater server availability and less down time for the end user. This system is supported by Select-a-Keyboard. This program allows customers to choose from a wide selection of IBM keyboard types when placing new system orders. (2) Intel is a trademark of Intel Corporation. SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT AND SECURITY The PS/2 Server 95 560 model has enhanced security and system management functions such as remote power-on, vital product data (VPD), and C2 security enablement, designed as standard features of the server. o Confidential business data stored in a PS/2 Server 95 560 is protected by new LogicLock C2 security features. - PS/2 Server 95 560 covers are secured by a hardware lock with unique key, backed up with tamper-evident switches. When enabled, this feature causes the server to suspend operations if tampering is detected while powered on. Even if the server is powered-off, when the server is next powered on again, it will indicate that an unauthorized attempt was made to enter the server. - A privileged access password, in addition to the standard power on password, can be activated to further control access to the server. If this feature is breached, it is virtually impossible for the system to be used until the correct privileged access password is given. - Additional security can be obtained by installing the Enhanced 2.88MB 3.5-inch Diskette Drive with electronic eject. This optional feature protects data from unauthorized removal via the diskette drive. o The PS/2 Server 95 560 model contains a remote power-on feature that allows the server to be powered-on remotely via an external modem, or from an internal power-on timer. Remote power-off can be achieved through software control. This function is extremely beneficial for running unanticipated reports or printouts remotely, during off-shift periods. o The PS/2 Server 95 560 model has an unattended start mode to automatically restart the server after a power failure and resume normal operation, without operator intervention. o The VPD logs the system serial number. A system administrator can view from the LAN the PS/2 Server 95 models that reside on the network, including configuration. This function can also serve as a security measure by confirming if unauthorized servers are connected to the network. GROWTH ENABLEMENT PS/2 Server 95 560 platforms feature eight slots and seven bays. Six slots are available for growth, such as by adding IBM 32-bit, streaming data busmaster LAN Streamer (TM) or EtherStreamer adapter cards to support more LAN users. Four hard disk bays are available to handle storage requirements of up to 9.0GB. Six additional memory SIMM sockets are available to support large applications, or to be used for a disk cache to heighten performance. o The PS/2 Server 95 560 comes with a 2.88MB diskette drive and a 1.0GB hard disk. Additional hard disk expansion is achievable by installing in the four remaining bays, four additional disk drive options. o The PS/2 Server 95 560 model contains 16MB of 70ns ECC memory installed in two of the eight SIMM sockets located on the system board. System memory can be optionally expanded up to 128MB using 16MB ECC SIMMS. INVESTMENT PROTECTION The PS/2 Server 95 560 model features a unique processor complex, not simply a processor upgrade socket. This processor complex contains the microprocessor, the ECC memory controller, L2 cache, and the electronic modules to support 40MB/sec streaming data, system control block (SCB) architecture, VPD, and error logging functions. This processor can be easily upgraded on customers' systems as faster processors and/or newer functions are developed. Customer application software and system configurations need not be changed when upgrading to most new processors, therefore installation of a processor upgrade is considerably less than that of installing a new system. Increases in system usage, performance demands of new software, and increased numbers of users/transactions are some of the reasons for upgrading a current system. The availability of interchangeable processor cards allows the ability to protect system investment by upgrading existing systems as new technology becomes available without having to purchase an entire system. System upgrades involving IBM's new processor upgrade options results in minimal disruption to customer operations and simplifies the migration of programs and data files. OPEN ENTERPRISE: Complies with International Standards Organization ISO 9241, Part 3. PRODUCT POSITIONING The The PS/2 Server 95 560 (9595-0PT) model is designed for computing environments requiring high levels of processor and LAN performance, data and device security, large memory and DASD storage capacities, and a high degree of expandability for device attachment. This floor-standing model is especially well suited to meet the demands of a medium to large client/enterprise network server, or a multi-user host system. In addition, this system is ideal for customers who use processor-intensive, client/server applications, such as database or file server applications that require advanced print capability, systems management and security features not available with the PS/2 Model 95 XP 486 family of systems. The PS/2 Server 95 560 (9595-0PT) model is a new, high-end server system. PUBLICATIONS The publications listed below and diskettes are shipped with the system.
