General Availability Planned General Availability Date is May 1993 Highlights Supports the new IBM 5250 Emulation Adapter/A (reference Product Announcement ZG93-0224, dated May 18, 1993) with function and features equivalent to the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 (reference Programming Announcement ZP92-0213, dated February 18, 1992). Provides two host sessions (display or printer) with concurrent access to PC DOS via a user-defined hot-key. Uses the same installation and configuration procedures as the currently available program. Increases flexibility with choice of different interrupt levels. Reduces cost to current users of the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 by providing only the required publication update pages. Description This program supports the IBM 5250 Emulation Adapter/A (reference Product Announcement ZG93-0224, dated May 18, 1993) with function and features equivalent to the currently available IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 (reference Programming Announcement ZP92-0213, dated February 18, 1992). Investment Protection Businesses which have provided training for their employees in the use of the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 can take advantage of a new hardware platform, that is the Micro Channel desktop, without needing to retrain their employees. Product Positioning This program eliminates any impact to businesses who have invested employee training expense in the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 and would now like to install new 5250 Emulation desktops based on the IBM Micro Channel Standard. It enables the use of a common 5250 terminal emulation application on both of IBM's desktop platforms - PC AT(R) and Micro Channel. National Language Support is provided for the same 7 languages that are available with the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3: U.S. English, U.K. English, French, German, Spanish, Belgian-Dutch and Belgian-French. It is designed to operate with any model of the System/36, System/38 or AS/400(R). Requirements for the personal computer are: An available IBM Micro Channel Standard expansion slot (full or half-size) An IBM 5250 Emulation Adapter/A (FC 5802, PN 64G3496) At least 128KB bytes of memory (256KB for Host Graphics support, 5292-2 subset) A 3.5-inch double-sided diskette drive (1.44MB) A monochrome or color display designed to the Video Graphics Array (VGA) standard or better The correct national language version of Micro Channel Support Version 1.0 should be ordered to provide the necessary update pages for the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 publications that the customer already has or will order separately. Installability Micro Channel Support Version 1.0 has been designed for easy installation by the customer. Execution of the Installation Program (INSTALL.EXE) provided on Diskette 1 automatically loads the necessary program files. The diskettes supplied with Micro Channel Support Version 1.0 contain the complete program files, i.e. it is not necessary to load the IBM Enhanced 5250 Emulation Program Version 2.3 first.
