Users may interact with the display and control the presentation sequence via a touch-sensitive screen or computer keyboard. InfoWindow Display utilizes the IBM Personal Computer (PC), an optional non-IBM videodisc player and the InfoWindow Control Program. The system is designed for use in applications addressing education and training, merchandising of products and services, and public access to information. Purchase Price: $4,195 Planned Availability Date: Fourth quarter 1986 Customer Letter Section HIGHLIGHTS o 13-inch dual frequency display attachable to the IBM Personal Computer, IBM Personal Computer XT (TM) and IBM Personal Computer AT (R) o Displays both RGB (red, green and blue) graphic images and National TV System Committee (NTSC) composite video formats o Supports overlay of text and graphics on composite video o Dual frequency graphics: - High frequency, up to 640 x 350 pels - Low frequency, up to 640 x 200 pels o Touch-sensitive display with up to 60 variable touch areas o Choice of 16 colors presentable on a single text and graphic screen from a palette of 64 colors o Synthetic speech for verbal messages and prompting o Integrated stereo speakers o Support for attachment of up to two concurrent non-IBM videodisc players (see schedule following for timing of videodisc player support) o Attachment of user-supplied optional devices (external stereo amplifier and speakers, stereo headphones, auxiliary composite video display, and projection screen) With the optional videodisc attached, the system will be capable of the following added functions: o Random access of audio and motion or still video images from a videodisc player o Overlay of video images with text and graphics from the IBM PC. DESCRIPTION The InfoWindow Display provides the end user a terminal to an information delivery system that requires an IBM Personal Computer (5150), IBM Personal Computer XT (TM) (5160), or IBM Personal Computer AT (R) (5170). The InfoWindow Display can also interface to certain Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) videodisc players. The InfoWindow Display, 13-inch dual frequency, is capable of accepting information in both RGB and NTSC composite video formats. This provides the ability to mix text and graphic information from the personal computer with still or motion video and sound from up to two OEM videodisc players. The information can be presented separately or intermixed (text and graphics over video) on a single screen. The display provides two frequencies switchable under program control. A 640 x 350 mode provides higher quality for viewing of text and graphics. Video images or text and graphics or a combination of text and graphics and video can be viewed in 640 x 200 mode. To control the presentation, the user relies on the touch-sensitive capabilities of the display screen capable of allowing up to 60 programmable touch areas. The PC keyboard can also be used for input if desired. The screen can display a full range of colors for video presentations and a choice of up to 16 colors selectable from a palette of 64 colors for any text and graphics screen. Two stereo speakers imbedded in the display provide audio output from either a synthetic speech card containing 218 prerecorded words and sounds in the display, the audio tracks from the videodisc player, or an external audio source. Additional words can be read from a PC diskette or fixed disk to extend the vocabulary. Words to be used for this external speech function must be recorded, digitized and stored by the user. An audio jack on the front of the display allows the option of using a customer supplied headphone. When the headphone is used, the imbedded stereo speakers are disabled. In addition, an external stereo amplifier and speakers, an auxiliary composite video display and/or a projection screen supplied by the user, can be attached to augment the capabilities of the InfoWindow Display. NOTE: Applications being developed to utilize the optional attachment of a projection screen or RGB monitor should be designed to operate at a single frequency (15.75 or 21.85 KHz) because of limitations of currently available devices, and designed to use any color for transparency except black.
