The processor option features the new IBM 386SLC 20MHz microprocessor and provides the capability of a processor performance upgrade for the IBM PS/2 Model 8557. This new microprocessor includes an internal memory cache controller and 8KB memory cache. The IBM PS/2 Cached Processor Option significantly increases the processor performance in various applications, especially compute-intensive applications, while providing investment protection. TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT MACHINE REQUIREMENTS: The IBM PS/2 Cached Processor Option can be installed only in the 80387SX math co-processor socket connector on the system board of the IBM PS/2 Model 8557 systems. If a math co-processor is installed in the system, it must be removed along with the co-processor socket, and the math co-processor is then installed in the math co-processor socket provided on the IBM PS/2 Cached Processor Option. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: This feature supports the operating systems supported by IBM PS/2 Model 8557 including AIX (R) PS/2 1.2.1 used with PTF #P210900. SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL The IBM PS/2 Cached Processor Option uses the security and auditability features of the IBM PS/2 Model 8557 in which it is installed. User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementation of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
