(Exceptions: The 3151 Model 110/160 supports 12 function keys instead of 24 function keys; does not support Program Access (PA) keys, line-drawing keys, or super/subscript keys; and does not support the split screen function of the IBM 3161.) The existing IBM host programming support for the 3161 is applicable to the IBM 3151 native mode. In addition, 132-character support in IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460 is implemented in the same manner as the 3162, so that host applications using 24 lines by 80 or 132 characters per line are compatible. The 29 lines mode of the IBM 3162 is not supported on the IBM 3151. There is a 3101 mode in IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460 ONLY. Users requiring 3101-881 compatibility should use these models. The RS422A communications option is provided on the IBM and DEC cartridge for IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460. This cartridge is needed for RS422A communications to a host. Support will be available August 1987 for 3101 emulation mode and December 1987, for native mode except for EDX Version 6.0 which will be available in the first quarter 1988. The IBM 3151 attaches to a wide variety of IBM and non-IBM hosts via the main communications port. The IBM 3151 supports RS232C communications via a modem or direct attachment (maximum cable length of 40 feet). The IBM 3151 Cartridge for Emulating IBM and DEC Terminals provides the ability for IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460 to support RS422A communications for the emulations provided on that cartridge. The RS422A interface supports a point-to-point direct coupling with a maximum cable length of 4,000 feet. The main communications port has a selectable transmission rate from 50 bps to 38,400 bps, inbound and outbound XON/XOFF pacing (inbound pacing is the default and not selectable), and echo/character/block modes, and supports seven- or eight-bit word length and no/odd/even/mark and space for parity. The auxiliary port on the IBM 3151 Model 110/160 is a unidirectional RS232C port for attaching another asynchronous ASCII device such as an ASCII printer. On IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460 the auxiliary port is enhanced with a bidirectional data capability. This allows the attachment of output devices, such as a printer, as well as input devices, such as wands and ASCII terminals. Transmission rates from 50 bps to 19,200 bps are selectable independent of the main communications port speed settings. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS: Users that require an RS422A Communications capability must use the IBM 3151 Cartridge for Emulating IBM and DEC Terminals which is available on IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460 only. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: Applications that require one of the following capabilities will need the IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460: o IBM 3101-881 compatibility o Greater than 12 function keys o Program Access (PA) keys o Line drawing keys o Super/subscript keys o Split screen o 132 characters per line o Host access to the twenty-fifth (status) line. Applications that require ANSI 3.64 compatibility should use one of the DEC VTXXX modes of the IBM 3151 Cartridge to Emulate IBM and DEC Terminals available for IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460. INDEPENDENT SOFTWARE VENDORS: The following software vendors have informed IBM that they will support IBM 3151 models listed by the noted dates. IBM has not tested these programs for compatibility. When available, the following programs will be supplied by the software vendors through their own marketing channels. Support, if any, will be provided by the vendors. COMPATIBILITY: IBM 3151 models generate an ASCII data stream that is compatible with the IBM 3161 and IBM 3162 ASCII Display Stations. The 3101 mode on IBM 3151 Models 310/410 and 360/460 will accept and generate IBM 3101 Model 881 data streams. There are some operational differences in the screen management facilities and key nomenclature and key positions. The operator may receive new and different messages. The IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station Reference Manual (GA18-2634) documents these differences. It is recommended that current 3101 users refer to this manual for migration planning. LIMITATIONS: The IBM 3151 Reference Manual describes specific limitations and enhancements to the data streams emulated within the base of each model. The User's Guide for Emulating the Wyse WY-50/50+ Terminals and the User's Guide for Emulating the IBM and DEC Terminals document specific limitations and enhancements to the emulations supported on their respective cartridges. These manuals should be referenced for migration and compatibility to the various displays. PLANNING INFORMATION Adequate site planning is the responsibility of the customer. The customer should have on hand, or should order the IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station Reference Manual (GA18-2634) for site planning and preparation work. o Power: - 120V AC, one-phase, three-wire, 60 Hz o Line Cord: - 2.8m (9.0 ft.) line cord with non-locking plug - 1.8m (6.0 ft.) line cord (6952301) with non-locking plug is also available. CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station is designated as a customer setup machine. The IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station Guide to Operations is shipped with each machine and describes the procedure for setting up the IBM 3151. CABLE ORDERS: The IBM 3151 provides female main and auxiliary communications ports. Specific attachment cables are provided by many IBM systems for attachment to the host. For attachment to non-IBM hosts, refer to the IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station Reference Manual for a detailed description of the main and auxiliary communications ports pin layout. It is the customer's responsibility to provide cables for these systems. Cables are readily available from a cable vendor. In some cases, a user can adapt an existing cable with a female to male converter plug. A cable for the DEC VT220 (which has a male communications port) could be converted in this manner by the user. A modem cable (6343332) can be ordered as an accessory for attaching a modem or ASCII printer requiring RS232C communications. An I/O cable (6343373) can be ordered as an accessory for attaching an IBM 4201 Proprinter or IBM 4202 Proprinter XL. A multi-function attachment cable (8310553) can be ordered as an accessory for attaching the IBM 3151 to a host via the IBM Cabling System, with RS422A communications. INSTALLABILITY: The IBM 3151 is a customer setup machine with a one-day allowance. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: The IBM 3151 provides operator warning messages, operating status, and communications status on the twenty-fifth (status) line of the display. The IBM 3151 performs a number of diagnostics at power-up time. The IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station Guide to Operations, which is shipped with each IBM 3151, describes the messages and procedures to follow for problem determination. PACKAGING: Each IBM 3151 is shipped in a single UPS-shippable container that includes a display with tilt mechanism, keyboard, power cord, blank keyboard overlay, and an IBM 3151 ASCII Display Station Guide to Operations Manual. If a cartridge feature has been ordered for the Models 310/410, a cartridge, User's Guide for the cartridge, keycaps and/or overlays are included. ACCESSORIES AND SUPPLIES: An optional tilt/swivel pedestal is available as an accessory and can be used on all models of the IBM 3151. The IBM 3151 Models 310/410 102-key Enhanced Keyboard has recappable keys. Clear, light-blank and dark-blank keycaps, as well as removal tools and paper inserts are also available as accessories. Special keycaps for the emulation modes available in Models 310/410 and 360/460 can be ordered to enhance the usability when using these modes.
